Adsmore Museum and More

    

Adsmore is a circa 1857 antebellum mansion filled with the Smith/Garrett family’s personal belongings. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The furnishings are original to the house and are displayed in eight rotating exhibits throughout the year.
Also located on the grounds at Adsmore is the Ratliff Gun Shop, a circa 1844 log building that has been restored and equipped as a gunsmith’s shop. Tours here take approximately 20 minutes. Admission is $5 for each person.
Adsmore is located at 304 N. Jefferson St. and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1:30 until 4 p.m. For more information, persons can call (270) 365-3114.

The Knott House museum is a traditional and performing arts studio, library and gallery.
Located at 302 Nichols St., the historic site is where “the story of the founding of the National Folk Festival is told and the history of folk festivals unfolds.”
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999 as the home of Sarah Gertrude Knott, founder and director of the National Folk Festival (1934-71). It presents the personal memorabilia of the Knott family in the gallery with showcasing of family photos, furniture, jewelry, folk art, folk musical instruments and SGK manuscripts and book “Folk Festivals and Folklore USA.”
The Knott Museum multi-medial exhibit is led by Yvonne Dodge, studio director. Continuing tours are free by appointment. For information, call 270-365-5223.

Amoss House Museum represents a triumph for the Caldwell County Historical Society and the community’s rural heritage. It is located at Cobb in the southern portion of the county.
Area author and historian, Bill Cunningham, called the house…“a shrine to the memory of Dr. Amoss, who was a champion of the farmer in the face of the Duke family tobacco trust that sought to control and drive down prices.”
The museum is also the starting point for the annual Black Patch Night Rider Tour.

The Caldwell County Historical Railroad Society operates a museum of railroad memorabilia. Among items on display are collections of railroad nails, model train sets, railroad equipment, photo collections, engine controls, a rail wagon, signals and more.
The main feature is the renovated ICRR caboose.
The museum is located on Edwards Street, south of Big Springs Park.
